I have read that the medical community has attributed too much blame to high cholesterol as a precursor to heart disease.

Can you have Marfan’s syndrome and not have heart problems?

Heart Problems
hpymomof3 asked:

I suspected that my 15 year old daughter could possibly have Marfan’s syndrome and now her doctor (family doctor) has ordered some tests. So far she has these characteristics: protruding collarbone, hyperflexibility, near-sightedness, crowded teeth/overbite (corrected by braces), increased arm span vs. height, thin long limbs, etc., although she is short. She was also just found to have mild scoliosis. She is at 20, which is the cutoff for Marfan’s.

They did an echocardiogram a few days ago and I am waiting for the results. If it turns out that the echocardiogram is ok do you think I need to pursue this anymore or would it be unlikely that she has Marfans syndrome? We’ve been given the phone number for a geneticist but hesitate to go there until we have determined whether or not she has any heart or eye defects. Apparently the geneticist is not covered by insurance.
