Heart Problems
Dr John Anne asked:

Heart disease is a general term that refers to a variety of acute and chronic medical conditions that affect one or more of the components of the heart. About 2 million of people of America are suffering from heart problems.

Heart is the muscular fist sized organ that lies in the left side of chest cavity. Heart supplies the blood to all parts of body. It continuously pumps blood beating as many 100,000 times a day. A cardiovascular disease is not a single ailment but it is a disorder of heart and circulatory system.

Heart disease can be referred to any kind of problem associated with heart or damage of heart valves, lining, arteries or electrical system. A person can suffer from different kinds of cardiovascular problems at the same time. A person can even born with diseased heart or develop heart disease later. Here are some of the heart diseases mentioned below:

Angina-It is a symptom of myocardial ischemia that usually caused by coronary atherosclerosis. Patient of this disease caused with feeling of pressure in chest and also shortness of breath. It is possible that a patient may sweat while exercising.

Heart failure-heart failure is also called congestive heart failure and on the other hand congestive cardiac failure is a condition which results from any structural and functional cardiac disorder. It impairs the ability of heart to fill with or pump a sufficient amount of blood throughout the body.

Heart murmur- It is a term that is used to describe the sound that the heart makes and when it appears different to normal beating. A heart murmur may possibly indicate Arrhythmias which is heartbeat irregularity or other heart disorder, but some heart murmurs may be normal. Any heart murmur needs prompt professional medical investigation.

Atherosclerosis- It is also known as “hardening of the arteries”, and caused by the gradual buildup of fats, cholesterol and other materials in the arteries. The build up causes the artery to narrow and become less flexible. Arteries loose elasticity as a natural part of the aging process. However, poor diet and smoking speed up this process. Diabetes and high blood pressure are also risk factors leading to atherosclerosis.

Hypertension- Hypertension is the condition of having high blood pressure. It is very common and affects around 50 million Americans of which about 30% are not yet diagnosed. Hypertension is an under-diagnosed condition as it causes damage to the body with no symptoms. It has been called a “silent killer” for this reason. Correct diagnosis of the cause of high blood pressure is important. Most cases of chronic hypertension are “primary hypertension” but a number of them are “secondary hypertension” where the rise in blood pressure is caused by another underlying condition. Hypertension during pregnancy is another common special case; it is called gestational hypertension.

Heart Problems
Kevin Pederson asked:

There are many reasons by which people can be affected by heart disease. By knowing these reasons one can start taking precaution before reaching such dire state. Reasons for having heart disease may be very common but the repercussions of the same are very bad for your health.

Age can be a major factor for you to suffer from heart disease. If statistics is anything to go by then it has come to notice that more than 83% of people who suffer from heart disease or any ailments relating to heart is either 65 or older. Being of male gender also causes heart problems as they are prone to die of heart attack in an early age. After menopause the women chances of having heart attacks increases but this is not the same with men.

Heredity plays a very important in determining your chances of having a heart problem. Children’s whose parents suffer from heart disease is more likely to be affected by this disease if proper care is not taken. The different races that are around this world among them African American suffers the most due to high blood pressure than Caucasians with higher risk of heart disease. As obesity also causes heart disease, major Americans suffer from it which causes the problem.

Smoking is not good for your health as it causes problems which can lead in a cardiac arrest. Passive smoking is also unhealthy as you are inhaling the fumes from the cigarette which are root cause of the problem. Cholesterol is also an important culprit in causing heart diseases as it gets affected with age, sex, heredity and your diet too.

Blood pressure and lack of physical activity also causes problems. High blood pressure leads to over loading of work to the heart which leads to thickening of heart and chance for stroke, heart attack and heart failure is expected. Stress, diabetes, alcohol are all part in causing the heart problems to you.

Heart Problems
David Oshanek asked:

In part one we examined one of the most detrimental factors to good health– the overgrowth of Candida Albicans, a fungal yeast that produces seventy-nine different antigens {poisons} to the body and impairs immune function as well as disrupting many of the other important body functions.

In this segment we will look at the pH factor and its importance in body chemistry. pH is hydrogen potential and a reading of 7.0 is neutral while a higher reading indicates alkalinity and below 7.0 indicates acidity.

Scientists tell us that our bodies function best with a blood pH level of 7.4 {actually 7.365} The physical body does everything it can to maintain this blood pH at 7.4. Since most people have little awareness of how the body functions and how to cooperate with those functions we unwittingly eat, drink and act inappropriately. Sometimes we try to do something good for ourselves e.g. drink bottled water to avoid pollutants in our drinking water.

The problem is that most of that water is processed by reverse osmosis or distillation and these have a pH of around 6.6 to 6.8 i.e. acid because all the minerals which affect pH have been removed. Some of the bottled water is spring water and this may have a pH of 7.2 to 7.6 which is alkaline and much better for our bodies. The problem here is that water is the universal solvent and so plastic bottles leach a poisonous chemical into the water. There is little indication how long the water has been sitting on the shelf and no way to tell how much leaching has taken place!

Water is very important to our bodies since fluids account for about 70% of our tissues. Dehydration is a problem for most, partly because we drink a lot of caffeinated drinks and caffeine is a diuretic which removes more fluid from the system than is ingested. Without enough fluids inthe body, blood becomes thicker making the heart work harder to pump it around the system–the skin becomes more wrinkled– dried out more than it should–elimination becomes more difficult {constipation} so toxins tend to be re-absorbed into the system instead of being removed.

There are other drinks such as alcohol, beer, colas,soda pop etc. which are acid. Soda pop containing phosphoric acid {causes the fizz} may be as low in pH as 2.5. It has been said that the body intelligence will even store excess acid in our fat tissues to prevent damage to the liver and kidneys. {Being overweight?}

Another aspect of which many are unaware, is that acid-forming foods are consumed excessively. It has been suggested that up to 80% of our food consumption should be alkaline-forming foods and only 20% acid. That indicates that our diet should consist of items like bran, barley, buckwheat, cornmeal, millet, oats, brown rice, rye criso, rye bread, and wheat germ, rather than wheat products such as cakes, crackers, macaroni, noodles, pies and pastry, spaghetti, wheat breads and wheat cereals. Another example relates to flesh foods. Some foods like chicken, fish, lamb, liver, lobster, turkey, veal, shrimp, crab meat, and trout tend to be alkaline while beef, hamburger, hot dogs, pork, salmon, sardines, sausage fall into the acid range. Most fresh fruits and vegetables tend to be alkaline but any commercial canned vegetables and fruits tend to be acid.

So we can see that eating has its hazards and care is required to avoid the difficult areas. One could take the attitude that this is too complicated, and it can be a bit overwhelming, but with a little care one can develop a sensing for which foods are appropriate. For example when facing a buffet and there are so many choices– some of them are o.k.– you can sense what is effective with a little practice.

There are some simple rules like avoid commercial canned fruits and vegetables and use fresh as much as possible. If you do your own canning don’t overload with sugar. Much more could be said on these points but hopefully these guidelines may be useful to you. There is a lot more info available on all these subjects.

This segment has emphasized the importance of acid/alkaline balance and the requirement to be aware to some degree of what we eat and drink and how it affects our health. Part three will consider the body from the cellular, electrical level and what can be done easily to work with the body processes.

How common is it to develop heart problems after lung surgery?

Heart Problems
ngmema asked:

My lung cancer surgery (which was successful) was just over a year ago (I just posted about scar tissue pain) and have developed two types of abnormal heart beats recently and continue with shortness of breath which is getting worse. Just trying to come up with explanations so I can stop “bugging” my doctors. Lung doctor suggest cardiac problems but it does not appear that way. I am waiting on results of a stress test and echo.
